Genghiz

 

From the tyranny of others, Genghiz figured that the way to survive in the wild and open plains is for one to be a tyrant himself.  So he arose above all the clans through shrewdness, cunningness, and a brutal willingness to impose his will.

He raised a dynasty that brought Death, Displacement and Destruction across Asia. His infamous successor, Kublai was known to rip babies out of their pregnant mothers and to use human bodies to provide stable foundations for his war machines.

Only the Mamluk Muslims managed to hold the Mongols at bay. After sacking Baghdad, the Mongols advanced toward Egypt and there they finally learned the meaning of defeat in the hands of Sultan Quruz of Mamluk.

The Maluk Sultanate is known as the slave sultanate due to their origin as slaves. When the last Ayyubid sultan died, his widow Shajar married her slave Aybak. Not sure if this was the sort that Richard Burton captured in his translation of The Perfumed Garden or whether he was referring to some other incidents. However, when Aybak later decided to take on an Emir's daughter as another wife, Aybak killed him.
